The Skipper
Matt Mason
Matt Mason is no stranger to breaking boundaries at sea. A serving Royal Marines Commando, he has five ocean rows to his name: the Mid-Atlantic in 2014, then the North Atlantic, Arctic, Pacific and Indian in four relentless years, stacking up three world-firsts along the way.
His record of consecutive crossings has already etched him into ocean rowing history, but one line remains. Row the Southern Ocean and Matt closes the grand slam, becoming the youngest and fastest person ever to row every ocean on Earth, a feat only one other human has achieved.

The Crew of Four
Built for the Bottom of the World
Three Royal Marines Commandos and an MOD Police officer, with thirteen ocean routes rowed between them, including three world firsts across the North Atlantic, Arctic and Indian Oceans. Their experience means that safety, whilst delivering a successful world-first ocean row, is paramount to mission success.
Matt Mason

Serving Royal Marines Commando and expedition skipper. Five ocean rows and counting: the Mid-Atlantic (2014), North Atlantic (2021), Arctic (2023), Pacific (2024) and Indian (2025). The Southern Ocean is the last line of the ocean-rowing grand slam, and he intends to close it.
Chris Cleghorn

Former Royal Marines Commando turned deep-sea commercial diver and submarine-recovery expert. Chris rowed the Atlantic with his brother Mat in 2011, then took on the Indian Ocean in 2023, rowing from Australia to Mauritius. He lives and works out of Perth.
Mat Cleghorn

Former Royal Marines Commando. Mat crossed the Atlantic in a classic pairs boat with his brother Chris in 2011, and now runs a technology business out of Perth. Sixteen years after that first crossing, the brothers are back in the same boat for the biggest row of their lives.
Matt Inglesby

MOD Police officer and Guinness World Record holder. In 2023 he rowed 518 nautical miles from Tromsø to Longyearbyen alongside Matt Mason, part of the first team of four ever to row the Arctic Ocean’s open waters. Two Atlantic crossings complete the set; the Southern Ocean will be his fourth, and by far his toughest.

The Ocean Revival team is on a mission to educate young people in ocean conservation through our education programme, visiting schools all over the world with assemblies and workshops for ages 4 to 18.
We focus on inspiring children to understand and protect their local and marine environments, and to push themselves out of their comfort zones, building resilience in readiness for life beyond education.
